I have currently running my lab-museum 10base2 & 10baseF (10 mb-sec optical). I am trying to set up a short segment of 10base5. I have one NIB vampire tap, and several multiport tranceivers that are to be spliced into the 10base5 cable with coax connectors. I was hoping to get a short piece (3-18 feet) of yellow or orange backbone RG-8 cable to use instead of having to use radio amateur type black RG-8. Official terminators would be nice too, although I can make my own from resisters and coax connectors, I presume (may not be up to spec, but if I'm not shooting for the full 500 meter max distance, it should be good enough). If I could get a used vampire tap I could keep the new one as new.

Beyond that, does anybody still have 1base5 or starlan1, the first attempt at UTP ethernet, runing at 1 mb-sec over phone cable? Or any 10broad36 that shared a coax with TV signals, going to 1800 or 3600 meters (different sources disagree on the distance). From what I found, I buttume the 1 mb-sec were local hubs connecting to desktops, and connected on the back side to 10 MB-sec 10base5 trunks.

spit I don't know. I'm hoping that if I blow just right, it'll melt before I...
