Oh, I'm not arguing it's wrong. What gets old is trying to stretch the LUT over 256 entries. Granted, RETLW is a fun and useful instruction all over. but, the thing is, adding an 8 bit to the PC only lets you have 256 entries IF you align everything nicely and all. Not plopping everything in and having youre LUT sit over a boundry is a pitfall I found out early on :(

Then again, the linker sure makes cleaning up those problems easy. I made agressive use of it on my last project. Confused the boss. Hmm, he hasn't called though, so I suppose they either dumped it for one of his disasters, or they're just living with the results, or they found someone who's bright enough to patch my code (which I commented well enough anyway)

Then again, last time I called, he REALLY didn't want to talk to me....

Yeah. I've not played much with them. The 16's are a lot closer , though there ARE hooks to mangle the I space at run time....

There is more than one C compiler, or at least there has been in the past. Keil may be the only one still in business. However...

I've found for small stuff, the PIC is hard to beat. It's small, it works as advertised (which I've found out is often MORE important than other things), and it tends to make tight code. PICs require you to get creative and also seek the simple solution. That's not really a bad thing, IMHO.
