50th Anniversary of invention of disk drives 4592
50th Anniversary of invention of disk drives Michael Black ZX Spectrum had so-called microdrives - endless loop tapes: 1993 is pretty late, but not unconceivable - during the 1980s, hard drives were a luxury... re: you might find the marketing department from a line of business possibly taking small part of their budget ... say several million to drop on gala and press releases ... but since the original line of business is sold off to somebody else ... it is hard to imagine who is likely to drop even a couple million on such an activity. how many remember the "last great dataprocessing IT party" (article in usatoday)? ... ibm had taken the san jose coliseum ... brought in jefferson starship and all sorts of other stuff (gala for the rsa show). between the time the contracting-funding for the event and the actual event ... the responsible executive got totally different responsibilities ... but they allowed him to play the greeter (all dressed up in a tux) at the front door as you went in. this has copy (scroll to the right quite a bit) of the program for that gala event (if i still have mine someplace, maybe i can scan it) somebody's trip report IBM's gala at rsa '99 wasn't even remotely as extravagant (and only $250k) ... somebody's pictures: not sure who's budget you could get to drop even a measly $250k on 50th disk anniversary.
