That sounds familiar. VT05s did not pbutt and were sold with a warning sticker. I remember people fighting over them. I don't remember why non-FCC compliant gear became important.

I just found a poster, "for internal use only" while clearing a space in my junk room. An option was a quad VAX system that was supported by a lot of OSes. IIRC, the number was 9000. Now, if SMP was so f***ing braindead in 1978, then why was-is it still getting done? And those OSes included the ones that Crispin claims to be superior to PDP-10 OSes.

It was awful. Three big extra modules had to go into the monitor just for the purpose of losing control of the disk geometries. It sure didn't sound like a tradeoff to me but that's what got handed to us and that's what got put into software.
