Arayna v0.035 alpha 2533
Arayna v0.035 alpha 2534 Poster I think the comment was that the game *user* is doing the focusing, not the game author. Emily's "ExpertGrammar.h, and other such extensions" can certainly help the programmer write a better... Stu George the easiest route for implementing an IF, but it can be done. Paul's game happened to be a good candidate for Kain and I to port to Arayna to demonstrate how to use the scripting language. If you've got a better candidate in mind, lets give it a whirl... Arayna v0.035 alpha 2535 Charles A. Crayne No, I wasn't complaining about Paul's "hell parser" or his sense of entertainment value - I've done enough of that in... That was my first impression of Inform code. Personally, I think TADS code looks cleaner and easier to make changes to. But those issues are mainly syntactic taste. It looks, to me, like it would be fairly simple to go through a TADS source to make some syntactic changes and logic adjustments to end up with an Arayna source -- it really isn't that much different. Too easy -- ASMers do things the hard way. ;-) What is un"real" and un"dynamic" about and ASM O-O system??? In what ways? I'm sure that TADS and Inform code is unreadable to those seeing it for the first time. That can also be said about the rut of current mainstream interactive fiction. It isn't enjoyable to try to come up with 40 different ways to say "Make the furry brown cow magically jump over the shinny full moon" just to get the dang cow to do it's thing! this caveat was even mentioned in the Slashdot discussion of the WSJ article This harrowing task of trying to guess all the uncommon words used by the game author is no longer a problem with Kain's point-N-click interface...and the player can focus on the more entertaining aspects of the game. Nothing new there. Although not popular, developers have used O-O techniques in buttembly language for years and years and years. I have linked the *alt.folklore.computers* group into this discussion so that one of them {they've been around longer than me} may jump in to answer your questions about that subject. Nathan.
