But of all the choices of media, why would you consider Usenet to be the "competent" one for Writing English ? The word "writing" describes the physical act of producing script with a pen or pencil (or brush or crayon, etc.) It also means the act of producing a publication work; you would properly say "I'm writing a book on Mesopotamian chisel metallurgy", but the book (media) itself would be a "printed book". *However* (the clincher)... "writing" does *not* include conversational style communications, which Usenet (mostly) is. Now of course, what *is* the proper verb... "talking"?, "chatting"? rpl
