Right, right .... explains not being able to converse and also do something requiring thought. I can't listen to music and at the same time do anything requiring thought. Those folks that bang out huge volumes of code with their music-player's volume control set to "stun"? and claiming that the music helps them work better? I knew some people like that in grad school, and it must have worked for them, but I can't imagine how.
However ....
The work ethic was repressed. Ideology trumps common sense. It was the grand struggle to mediocrity...

The common factor might be that both the talkers and you needed something to occupy your brains while the useful stuff got done. You just made a different choice about how to occupy your brain??

Interesting. To sort of continue what I was saying above, these are all activities I *could* do with music in the background.
Richard Feynman has something in one of his autobiographical books about doing some experiments-on-himself to find out which activities he could do at the same time and which he couldn't. I forget the details, but it was something like .... oh, in processorspeak it would be something like "two activities that use different functional units can be done concurrently, but two activities that need the same functional unit can't."
Yeah. Or "not socialized in the same way as most women", maybe. Me either, though apparently not in exactly the same areas.
So you could mulbreastask well, as long as the mulbreastasking didn't include processing frequent interrupts? maybe this is, um, non-preemptive mulbreastasking rather than preemptive mulbreastasking?? Interesting.
