My hypothesis is that it kept the "noisy" pieces of the brain busy; then that function of the brain never interrupted the compute-bound thinking.

Yes. Whenever I discussed something, I concentrated on the discussion. Listening is a 2-CPU job. :-)

I've done that all my life. From what you wrote above, he approached it by parbreastioning. I didn't. I planned stuff based on what I've called work flows. There have been some books written about how to do housework more efficiently. These have everything to do with doing stepwise functions, putting off the finishing touches until they can be done all at once. Most software projects followed this method. For instance, you have a 2-story house. You do the work on the first floor, piling all the stuff you want to carry to second floor at the foot of the stairs. When your activity does require going up the stairs, you carry a pile with you. This is essentially doing two things at once. In computing it would be combining timesharing with parallel processing. All production uses these methods but I don't think it's possible to formulize methods. I've tried and haven't figured out a way yet.

Right.

I call that getting burnt in. It all depends on how you established your work and thinking patterns as you grew up and the kinds of work that you finally got paid to do.

Something like that. Conversation required huge amounts of concentration. Note that I have no patience nor interest in talking about fashions, decorating, stuff like that. It's all pretty wrapping paper and a "waste" of time and energy.

One of the great things about getting older is that I no longer have to conform in the situations where it was a mandatory thing when I was younger. Now the atbreastude is that I'm eccentric or weird or something rather than a danger...for most women. There are still women who fear, but that population gets smaller as I get older.
