slightly related concerning billing and off-shift dialin
i didn't get home terminal until mar70, it was initially a "portable" 2741 ... two 40lb green suitcases ... shortly replaced with a real 2741.
picture of top of 2741
note that it didn't provide any sort of work surface (only about 4" on sides and back of the typewriter case).
science center had 3-8"(?) white formica covered plywood ... that rested on the surface surrounding the 2741 typewriter case. the work surface was about 24in wide on one side and 6in on the other side and back (with cut-out fitting around the typerwriter case). it could be flipped so the work surface was either to the left or right of the typewriter.
a multics article mentioning home terminals
the science center occupied part of 4th floor, 545tech sq ... and the machine room (360-67) occupied part of the 2nd floor. multics group was on the 5th floor.

Please explain. You probably wouldn't have a cheap, powerful personal computer on your desktop now if it hadn't been for the 80s and the lowly 8-bt home computers of the time...
the 2741 i had at home and the 2741 at work were the same ... so there was little difference between using the computer at work or home ... except it was a little faster picking up printed output (from the 1403 high-speed printer in the machine room) when at work ... (just run down two flights of stairs).
