Coleco Adam Diak Manager question
Slashdots new policy sprachen: Yup. Not as bad now, when we're all (I am) on broadband 24h. On pay-per-minute modem connections, I had thought about some way of ripping down whole chunks... Don't confuse "Disk Manager" (a Coleco product, supports 160K disks and 256K digital data packs only) with Tony Morehen's "File Manager" (which supports all known ADAM disk, tape, and hard drive formats, depending upon what version you get). File Manager was written from scratch, originally as a CP-M or TDOS program. The hard drive versions were bundled with the particular hard drive you happened to buy (MFM "Mini Winnie", SASI and IDE "Powermate") and support that hard drive only: the hard drive interfaces all patched device 24 (tape 2) and mapped it to the hard drive, so they are software-incompatible (though the hardware I-O ports are all different and the hardware can coexist). I imagine that ADAM's House is selling disk-tape-only versions, since hard drive interfaces are extremely rare now, no new ones being manufactured by either Orphanware or Micro Innovations (both are defunct). I could put you in contact with someone who *might* be able to get you an IDE hard drive system; E-mail me if you wish. *Rich* -- Richard F.
