Well all the world is NOT a Microsoft Windows box, or even a Mac.

On Mon, 28 Aug 2006 18:24:06 -0600 in alt.folklore.computers, Steve Firefox ran fine on my Win95 machine and still rnus fine on 98SE. Hardware and software are independent: EULAs for later MS software are unacceptable...

Nope. Wrong. Linux (for instance) does not have Ariel, since that's a Microsoft-only font. Microsoft designed it because they needed a font that looks pretty at low resolution without anti-aliasing. If you're talking about Ariel, you're talking about Microsoft Windows.

"xlsfonts grep -i ariel" returns nothing.

I don't have Comic Sans, either.

I do however have 3 types of Courier font: Adobe, Bitstream, and IBM.

It's got a brand-new install of X11 Release 7.0 and I haven't removed any fonts.

Mozilla's current font selection is set up as follows (and I've never changed it, since I don't care about fonts):

Joe, There isn't one - at least you won't find "Comic Sans" in any RFC that I know...

Proportional: Serif Serif: adobe-times-iso8859-1 Sans-Serif: adobe-helvetica-iso8859-1 Cursive: adobe-courier-iso8859-1 Fantasy: adobe-courier-iso8859-1 Monospace: adobe-courier-iso8859-1

(Yes, I do find it odd that the serif font isn't "Serif"...)

I HAVE set "minimum font size: 10" for those f***heads that like to use microscopic fonts. This used to greatly alter the layout of the CNN.com page and lots of the motorcycle-related pages I read.

There are no fonts guaranteed to be on any computer, and basically since the font issue is so minor, I don't give a poo as long as it can deal with bold, italic, etc.

If your webpage is so badly designed that it needs a particular font (or particular screen resolution, or particular set of browser bugs, or proprietary extensions) then I don't really care to deal with it.

Gene, While I do use the Internet a lot, I also spend a comparable amount of...
