East Germany was always in Germany. :-

But, in the October 3rd 1990 unification the BRD (Federal Republic of Germany Bundesrepublik Deutcshland) welcomed 6 new republics as members, and one of them merged with an existing BRD territory (East-West Berlin). The BRD also took over the external responsabilities attached to the old DDR; but the state of DDR (German Democratic RepublicEast Germany) ceased to exist. It was NOT taken over by the BRD, it went into oblivion. It is probably out there, somewhere, looking for a new people to represent.

The 1949 BRD consbreastution is unaffected by the event.

The DDR is therefore not in the BRD; but it's former people and territory is.

A similar scenario would happen if all the Provinces and Territories of Canada were buttimilated as states in the US; and the US took over the external responsabilities of the Canadian Governement.

This takeover had clear conditions attached; foremost among all that the BRD consbreastuiton would apply.

I don't know of any other states that similarly just ceased to exist.

Possibly South Vietnam.

I got a pbuttport stamp there from the last day it was in operation. Another special event was that we could walk to all the checkpoints; most of them normally required you to travel in bus-car-train.
