For many years, I have maintained that one should not trust anything1 one reads on anyone's web-site. I realize that a Wikipedia supposedly has the property that inaccurate information can be corrected by just about anyone2, but does this excuse the idea that in 1795 anyone knew about K == 2^10? Especially since I don't even think the multiplicative prefix kilo (for 10^3) had been invented at that time: the fledgling Metric System didn't come along for another year or two, IIRC.

BTW, K for 2^10 was already well established (and understood to differ from k for 10^3) when I started programming for a living in 1964. So if that "1795" was a tyop for "1975", it's out by at least a decade.
1 Rather like a boss I had in the 1960s: his father had been a sub- editor on theLiverpool Echo-, and gave the wise admonition "Never trust anything you read in a newspaper, not even the date". In the early 1980s, I happened to buy a copy of the SwindonEvening Advertiser-, and was amused to find that the date printed on the back page differed from the one the front!
