How to implement Lpars within Linuxref: yes, well, originally they claimed that only application code needed to be unbundled and charged for ... and that the operating system code needed to still be free (23jun68 plus 1). i had done a bunch of stuff as an undergraduate that got shipped in the cp67 virtual machine operating system. in the morph of cp67 to vm370, a lot of that code was dropped from the product. i was then given an opportunity to re-introduce a lot of the code back into the vm370 virtual machine operating system calling it the "resource manager" (which included a whole bunch of stuff besides resource management) PDP1 3521 Well...usually. After my PPOE ordered a 2361 LCS memory box, it was discovered that the freight elevator in the building (1940s? construction) was fractionally too small for the 2361 when it was... however, they decided to use it as guinea pig for starting to charge for operating system software ... and i got to spend time with the business people working out the policy for charging for operating system software. the resource manager was released 11may76. then over a few years, more and more of operating system software was changed from free to priced-charged ... although it continued to ship with full source ... until the OCO (object-code-only) wars in the early 80s. a few recent posts mentiong 11may76 --
