I am a parent of an autistic child like many of you. Since tommorow is April First I want to start off awareness month as it should be. The above site is linked to the CURE AUTISM NOW group whose purpose is to raise money, fund research, and help raise awareness. On May 22nd in Chicago we are holding a walk for awreness and in hopes of rasing money to help support this worthy cause. It was said that if 1 in every 166 children being born today were kidnapped, the US would be in a state of emergency. We are in a state of emergency and its called autism. According to the CDC (Centers for Disease Control), 1 in every 166 children born today is affected by autism. This represents a dramatic increase over the past five years. It is estimated that there are in excess of 1,500,000 people living with autism, bringing autism rates to epidemic proportions. Autism affects four times as many boys than girls, but autism is not linked to race or socio-economic factors. Although there has been some promising research, the definitive cause of autism is unknown and there is no known cure.
