This kind of abuse can be heard (or felt) at the substations and sometimes at the generating station as well. That momentum from delta 1200 amps has to go somewhere. The energy...

Most PLC calculations are hard and nasty - add these two numbers, multiply these two, divide. Rarely are you adding up a long column. In any case, 1st take the raw analog in, then scale, then do whatever. most of this is getting it compatible with a SCADA or HMI setup anyway.

We'll see it in testing since we have to simulate the full range of analogs anyway - such an error pops right out. More often than not, this rescaling is done for human consumption - i.e. to display a realistic number on a screen. Or in the case of my current one, to use the PLC's PID loop function more effectively - but there the controller's doing the scaling and tracking, I'm just telling it the flow range is 0 to 1600, which just means 0.00 to 16.00 million gallons a day....

You have to at times :) My cow-orkers all consider me a newbie because I haven't been inadvertently sprayed with sewage...yet... Thankfully, I have mostly freshwater stuff right now, but I've been in poop pumper stations (I have a rewrite of one coming up - I get a grand tour eventually, plus the one site rewrite-rewire-debug). one nice thing - it's not a 9-5 desk job - I get out in the field a lot, and it's always something different - packed tower aeration one month, transit tunnel another month, electric substation another. I get to see lots of cool poo and lots of warm steaming poo too :)

Oh but it's so *useful*. The mindset of PLC programming is far different is many ways from a regular computer, not to mention inevitably graphic driven though you can still do Allen-Bradley stuff...
