This kind of abuse can be heard (or felt) at the substations and sometimes at the generating station as well. That momentum from delta 1200 amps has to go somewhere.

The energy companies are not fond of such designs. They can easily slap a quadrupling on the energy cost on you for doing such stunts.

High pressure compressors usually start on a 3 or 4 stage bootstrap; starting with all-series-with a resistor, then all-series, then wye-delta. Makes a nice series of slamming relays as it starts up. They also make a lot of effort not to break a relay connection when it is carrying current.

Water people have learned that stuff about levels the hard way. In a gravity well like the Earth liquids will have a pressure that is proportional to the depth; and such pressure will follow pipes in surprising fashions unless you take full control.

The customers are not happy if the water (or sewage) suddenly comes with 20 bar (~300 psi) extra pressure. This is the pressure from a 200 meter drop, not unusual from a water tower to a low-lying area.

Besides, valves are never on-off, they are open or closed.

This is an observation we have made of the "Post Gen X" generations.

The kind of guys (and some girls) that belong to the "bluelight wannabees" are a lot scarcer in the lastest generations. Nerds usually don't fall in this category.

I use "blue light services" as a common name for the cops, trauma medics, rescuers, firemen and general rescue staff that usually arrive to their workplace using flashing blue lights. It is an idiom I hereby translate into English for want of a better word.

Oh yeah. But it's 'only' 277 volts. I suspect the idiots who came up with...

The hangarounds can be found at all the risk sports, taking pilot lessons, and do climbing, diving, hanggliding, motor sports, parachuting; and they ride firetrucks and ambulances during the graveyard shift to pay for it all. They usually find the army boot camp boring.

These are the people that think chemical dives are way cool, because of all the cool stuff you get to use. The difference from what an astronaut would wear during a spacewalk is actually quite small. They are the guys who would like to go close to the sewage to read a meter.

You won't find many of them with a Civil Engineering degree, that takes too long and is boring. A surprising number of them make medical doctors though, and the police forces run them through law school.

I wonder what happened to these later generations. Video games?

I dunno. I still can't find a use for 1-2 of what a typical Modicon has. Then again, about the best use for most of Modicon's stuff...
