IBM 610 workstation computer 3424IBM 610 workstation computer 3426 PASC owns the 145 ... they've paid for the machine and it otherwise sits idle most nights and weekends... IBM 610 workstation computer 3425 the 370-195 in bldg. 28 was setup as a service for lots of organizations. pasc's 370-145 was setup just for pasc's personal computing use. pasc had a... Anne & Lynn Wheeler On the 195 On day 001 submit the Pasc job with data {a,b,c,...} On day 008 submit the Pasc job with data {d,e,f,...} On day 015 .... with data {g,h,i,...) ....... and so on........ On day 091 get back the results for {a,b,c,...} On day 098 get back the results for {d,e,f,...} On day 105 get back the results for {g,h,i....} ........ and so on...... i.e. each job has three months turn around. But independant outputs can pop out one week, at a time, or however densely the independaant jobs are permitted to be submitted. IBM 610 workstation computer 3427 recent posts in the thread note that VM had been doing something similar for years ... using memory-to-memory moves... On the 145 On day 001 submit the job (A) with data {a,b,c,...} On day 007 submit job (B) with data {d,e,f,...} etc. But because job A only gets service during idle time, which it soaks up, job B doesn't get to run till A completes on day 030. Or else B competes with A and delays its completion past day 030 etc. So on the 195 the 5'th job submitted on day 1+4*7 = 029 would come back on day 91+28 = 119, while on the 145 the 5'th job would come back on day 151 (as long as it had been submitted before 121 :) ) . The rest of what you wrote while informative and interesting does not explain how using the 145 could give the Pasc crew better service after the first several jobs. :)
