ICL 1900 Software Recovery

I have never used Filetab, but ISTR that it was quite popular at one time. I buttume that you would clbuttify it as a (database) language, but if you want to call it an application, I won't argue.

The intention is to have a public release available eventually. The emulator is currently going through a lot of enhancements and debuging.

The still live user of George 3 in Russia is now trying the emulator as a programmers test system. The 2966 was never designed to be a water cooled machine as they found when a pipe burst over the (now ex) development system. They are also a bit twitchy about how long the production system will keep running - a lot of work is still to be transferred to either an idle IBM system (more involved than they first thought) or to a Unix base.

Some of my playing has been on things that they require for production. Batch work is generally okay, but the comms. side (Communications Manager-Driver support) left a bit to be desired - much of that is now fixed, and I have written my first Driver program. They run a large online system.

Another 'defect' with the emulator is how much disc space can be online, they are running with 9 x FD640, which is an awful lot of EDS60s and still quite a few EDS200s.

I can let you have a copy of the emulator, if you care to drop me an email. You will need to set the system up, I haven't yet created an 'installed' system and the filestore that I have been working from still had some user information in it; therefore I am reluctant to send this one out.

I also have a new MENDIT (bug fix), developed together with Delwyn, to correct an error created by ICL in one of their last MENDITs.
