While I don't thnk most Doctors are dishonest, I can't say that about everyone. A couple of months ago someone sent me an email that claimed the flu vaccine shortage was due to the cost of liability and litigation (they also tried to tie the Kerry-Edwards campaign into it). Said no American company would touch the stuff due to that and we were, therefore, dependant on that British company that was shut down.

Of course, the facts didn't support any of the claims. For starters, it was an American company that owned the lab in England, and the claim of a mbuttive lawsuit linked to Edwards was fiction - at least no one who has gone looking for it can find a record of it.

Finally, when you consider that the last Stateside company to try to sell flu vaccine lost $50 million dollars in three years due to unsold doses, it seems pretty obvious why it's not made in America any more. (BTW, once the panic was over, most people went back to their usual habit of ignoring the vaccine and we ended up with a bit of a surplus.)

The person who wrote the original email wasn't interested in facts, of course, nor were the people who forwarded the thing. They just wanted to promote tort reform and any lie would do to that end. -Wm
