(Maybe ESDI or SCSI) The oldest ATA drives that I have are from 1990. I don't think that anybody still makes MFM or ESDI drives. Well... I have done that on purpose. I never touched windows XP, except as a naive user on other people's machines. I took the opportunity to stay away from the new EULA; unacceptable licensing terms as bad as they come. This is met with some expression of disbelief when people ask. They are even more struck with disbelief when I suggest some commercial services that I know are good.
And we are able to run formal systems around the maintenence and upgrade process. Macs integrate very well, and my present POE has gone Mac for all end-user stuff. When you get right down to the base economics they cost $150 more than a similar stock PC, but the design and robustness is well worth it. That is between 1 and 2 hours of invoicable time for us. That is saved weekly for everyone involved. And people tend to love their Macs. Even sales and marketing people take to it with enthusiasm. We contrast this with another very similar organization we work closely with, that has had 4 full mail-server crashes since we started cooperating in January; and have a resigned outlook to fate expecting things to be that way.
