This is getting to be a pretty good exercise in the hazards of PCitis and the extraordinary lossage of bits.

Let us just talk about posts; they're English ASCII; they're no code; and each contains diverse snippets of knowledge.

Problem #1: I faithfully saved all of these with the intention of sorting and cataloging "later". The medium I used depends on old OS code, old hardware ports and I have no idea if this facility is intimately familiar with disk geometry and-or file structure layout.

Problem #2: My good poo is scattered all over the place. This is because I used different apps to save things over time. Each bit set of code has its own perference w.r.t. "default" directories and naming conventions. There are some who have different defaults and conventions depending on who-what-when-where the storage directive happened. When these saved bits are looked at through the software that saved them, everything looks OK and collected and named well. Now try to find these files when you're at monitor level. HAH!

Problem #3: Some data, which looked like it was saved as an ASCII file, wasn't. It was saved with thick wrappings of the code that saved it. I HATE ISAM and everybody's solution to do everything in sequential access files which cannot be read with a TYPE FOO command.

There are other aspects which I may write about.

Nope. Got no local pals. I'm socially isolated. And the point of this upgrade exercise is to do myself. HTF am I going to learn if I let some adept do the work?

Besides, I'm discovering atbreastudes w.r.t. the computing biz which needs my re-examination.
