The problem is that the government so centralized can more easily be corrupted by a single enbreasty with the most money (i.e. more easily bought).

Nor a space program or have a National Park system. Face it, the Consbreastution, as originally written, is not prefect, hence the Amendments.

Also, the Federal Reserve System wasn't outlined in the Consbreastution, but we sure as hell needed it after the Great Depression.

The Consbreastution states that, "A well regulated militia, being necessary for the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bare arms shall not be infringed". Forget "well regulated", we don't even entertain the notion of a militia in that context and reduced that amemdment down to four friggin letters: RKBA. 27 words down to four letters. So before you quote the Consbreastution as if it were scripture just remember how it has become to be interpretted in the last 200+ years. And also where it simply falls short in the context of the 21st Century (i.e cars, spaceflight and computers).

If Thomas Jefferson knew that we'd be killing 40,000+ people on the highways every year he sure as hell be an advocate of public transportation, thus putting him in the domain of an unelectable official as the oil companies would simply not stand for that!

No tax means that we don't get roads fixed, trash removed, etc.

Well since the Republicans have a majority in all three branches, I'd say that the system has failed or that the people get what they deserve or both.

It is not a matter of right = good and left = bad, as you'll find that both are bad is closer to reality hence the need for checks and balances. The fact that Reps believe in their people more than Dems is why the Reps are in power and nothing to do with the moral reality of their leaders.

History has shown that Reps were in power at the time of the Great Depresion, McCartyism and Watergate only to be followed by Dems when the people realized that they had been screwed. Another generation has pbutted and the Reps are back in power, it is only a matter of time for another debacle where the Dems will get back into power as they have done before, for better or worse.

Let me ask you if the Federal Gvnt. was ever to become weaker than a single state, like say, Texas or California, would that be a good thing? The reason I ask, is, what would stop a state like TX or CA from being even more powerful given your proposal of stronger states and weaker central gvnt.? What check would be there if not for something central to oppose that most powerful and corrupt state?

I certainly wonder if on 11-22-63 when JFK was end in TX if that wasn't EXACTLY what was present in the US at that time.
