Obsolete phrases 2804
My grandparents retired a few years ago and were tossing their office furniture, including a 1916 Royal typewriter. I was like "*I* *W*A*N*T*" and they were like "that old thing? sure..." Holy crap, that thing's built like a tank. It's made of cast something and weighs nearly 30 pounds, and is over a foot tall. It's not like any manual typewriter I've ever seen, somehow the key moves only 1-4" with very little force, but the typebars hit with a good *thwack*. It uses modern ribbons, and I buttume that's a conversion. Anyway, recently my grandmother wanted to type up some forms and saw the crap they sell as typewriters today, and wanted the old one back. "OVER MY DEAD BODY! You were going to toss that thing! You can come over and use it here."
