It's a lot faster, easier, and cheaper to repair or replace a failed PC than to help a dead automobile. Old PCsenvironmental hazard 3235 KR Williams But when you have thousands to deal with, the cost of replacing those machines adds up and becomes substantial... What would say the lifespan of such fans and disk drives is then, that they have to be replaced? To me failure of a hard disk is a catastrophic failure, equivalent to the motor or transmission of a car being ruined. Frankly, I've heard of only one hard drive failure, and that was on a PC used in rough service.
I don't know what "PHB" is. But a good accountant recognizes the difference between spending real cash for something and 'book value'. Smart companies keep buttets going as long as they're reliable and meet need, which could be a great many years as "value zero" or even earlier than value zero. Indeed, plenty of buttets are written off prematurely because they no longer meet their purpose.
Old PCsenvironmental hazard 3234 20 years. No, it is not easier. There are still whole business in place which will do the work to replace an auto. I have to do all... No, it does not look like "cash" on the bottom line. Any accountant or analyst understand the difference between real cash earnings and bookkeeping generated earnings. Indeed, financial reports include a separate chart on cash flow. Some businesses are flush with cash even when their books report low profits, others have high profits but little cash. It depends on the nature of the business.
Other posters here apparently do not agree on that repair philosophy.
