Old PCsenvironmental hazard 3237And probably, to some degree, the oddity of the things I do with computers, I'd guess. But if so, then I must work in groups, and consult for people, who do many odd things because there always seems to be a lot of overhead. Old PCsenvironmental hazard 3238 One would think so; experience says it won't be. However, your administrator isn't really a "new" user. The people I was thinking about are... I wonder. Out department administrator got a new computer a few months back. When I go in Monday I'll ask her what her experience was switching machines. She uses e-mail, spread sheets, Word and so forth quite a lot, plus some custom stuff written by the company, but widely deployed (so you'd think they'd make it easy to distribute and update). Not generally my habits. I usually just go with the "new" features (desktop appearances, new ways of selecting things, and that sort of stuff). Whatever the new OS or machine expects for it's human interface, I just accept it, or suffer through it, or whatever. The folks I've worked with who did what you said had a harder time than I did getting things "just right" again, so, yes, you have a point. servers, Actually, I thought we were talking about replacements in large numbers, wherever. In the place I work now, and those I've worked before, the "large numbers" are engineers (hardware and software) doing engineering things. The majority of these machines are customized to their tasks to some degree or another. Actually, in my case, yes they do. I'd guess that less then 20% of them can be just replaced like that. - Bill
