there was a concerted effort to try and get approval to make a job offer to the person (that did most of the work) after he had graduated ... but wasn't succesful, and so he went w-amdahl.
as mentioned in some of the past postings referencing aspen ... there was some amount of rivalry between aspen and gold (aka A.U.) projects. I suggested to some of them that they might somewhat reconcile by looking at doing something akin to the tss-370 ssup work for AT&T ... with a stripped down page mapped supervisor underneath higher level unix code.

If nothing else, there were several in the valley that would show up to the monthly meetings at SLAC and then adjorn to the blue goose or one of the other watering holes afterwards ... where we would gibitz about such things.
