YOY does the world insist on M$? How many versions of Windows have there been in the last five years? A standardized platform makes things simpler, but I don't believe Win2K is available anymore. Job security? The fun of playing with a new toy? I could easily say the same thing about computer languages. Why do we need another one? Cobol worked just fine. My oldest machine (K6-III-400) is about 6 years old. It's had the same OS (Win2K) for at least five of that. Even it's slowing down, but I haven't a clue why. My 2YO Opteron is quite a bit faster. ;-) Win95, surely you jest! I wouldn't use that crap on a bet! Win2K was the only version of Windows I'd give two cents for, though XP is all there is now. I wouldn't use Windows at home at all if I could get support (mostly hardware) elsewhere. I went from OS-2 to Win2K because of hardware and haven't fully switched to Linux for the same reason. I don't use Word at all. In fact the only program in the Office suite that's worth a bit is Excel. A given user may not use all the features of a program, but different users use different subsets of features.
