OK, inspired by Mark's questions I've dug out my "PDP-6 monitor sources". These were given to me several years back by Paul and I've been pretty much...

Actually, what *is* gained is the ability to run current software. If you would like to go into a store and buy a copy of the latest game...

another problem JES2 had internally was is use of source maintenance.

both cp67 (and later vm370) and hasp shipped with full source. A lot of customers commoningly rebuilt their systems from scratch ... re-buttembling everything from source.

internally, the jes2 group had adopted the source maintenance infrastructure from cp-cms ... and were doing almost all their development on cp-cms platform. actually a large number of product groups did majority of their development on cp-cms platform ... even a large number of the mvs-based products. however, jes2 was one of the few mvs-based products that exclusively used the cp-cms source maintenance infrastructure (possibly in part because they had shared a common heritage of shipping all source and customers being used to rebuilding systems from scratch using the source).

however, this created some amount of hbuttle for jes2 development group ... because they then had to convert all their cp-cms based stuff to mvs infrastructure for product ship.

misc. past posts describing evolution of cp-cms source maintenance infrastructure tools -- what and when? tools -- what and when? Importance Of The Mainframe Heritage 73-80 and NonStop OS ? and NonStop OS ?
