The powersupply of my Indigo2 MaxImpact broke, unfortunately. But the thing is almost 9 years old now. A lot of my peecee hardware broke much earlier and gave me far less user satisfaction. Either I find a replacement PSU or a replacement workstation. SGI Fuels are becoming cheap now, just like Sun Ultra 80's or example.

Precisely. As for the usefulness of 'weird hardware', take for example a late model SGI O2 with the analog video option, which has a realistic market value of ~EUR 150-200:

- Try to specify a peecee or an Apple that can display fullscreen full-frame full colour NTSC-PAL video that just works: no crashes, no buggy drivers, no half-baked GNU-Linux works-real-soon-now-honest non-solution. Gasp at the cost. - Try to top its horribly outclbutted 85 dB audio signal which, like the Indigo2 audio, gives a much better real-world performance than 90+ dB mid-price peecee sound cards (and no, I'm not a golden ear audioweenie). A Creative Audigy2 ZS, you say? EUR 75 for the OEM version, Windows drivers only. And Windows means fast and thus relatively loud peecee; say goodbye to your 120 dB range.

- Have audio programming aspirations? SGI AL works. I'm also working myself through various Linux audio API's and they're godawful in comparison.

And so on. But I'm beginning to sound like a Mac evangelist, I'd better stop.
