3290 had multiple session support (it was large screen and you could parbreastion it in various ways like into quardrants with four sessions-screens being displayed simultaneious). later PCs with 3270 emulation could take advantage of the multiple 3270 session capability.

here is an old story ... that created new terminal session (on local vm machine) and then connected to PVM to do terminal emulation over the internal network to the field engineering ("RETAIN") system and looked at database of software-hardware reports and any problems-fixes-changes-updates (retrieving and saving specific information).
