My children go to school, come home and are subjected to a stream of information from both their siblings (of which there are a large number, I am the father of 10) and from my wife and I. Most parents these days do not do much in the way of educating their children. Kids watch MTV instead of PBS or Discovery or PBS, parents unpleasant woman and moan if the kids have too much homework, and basically all expect that 6 or 7 hours in a school will teach their children all there is to know. I also attribute a great deal of the problem to the fact that people have become greedy, and both parents work. My wife and I made a decision that one of us would be a stay-at-home parent, based on who had the lesser income. She won, and has been on mommy duty for many a year now. Baby sitters park the kids in front of the tube and pray they remain quiet until the parent arrives to collect them. If you want your children to grow up educated, instill them with a desire for knowledge, make it MORE important than playing on the school football team, challenge them constantly.
