From 1909 to 1962 copyright was 28 years, renewable for another 28 years. Then from 1962 to 1976 Congress extended the renewal term repeatedly without allowing renewed copyrights to expire while they debated changes. In 1976, the term was extended to 50 years after the rest of the author; 75 years from publication or 100 years from creation for corporate works, whichever is earlier, became the law. The requirement to renew was dropped too.
Then in 1998, it was extended again to 70 years from the rest of the author or 95 years from publication or 120 years from creation for corporate works. In theory they will then expire, but the best congress Disney can buy shows every sign of continuing to extend the term lest Mickey Mouse become public domain.
So the 1934 book by a corporate body might have expired after 1962 if they didn't renew it, but if they did renew it, it won't expire until 2029. But smart money is that Congress will extend the term yet again before then.
(I am not a lawyer, but I have had to look this stuff up in various personal and work capacities.)
