The 8008 1773The 8008 1777 That the same lady that wrote "The Proud Tower" about the causes of the First World War?.. That was... (this should really have stayed in my Drafts Folder but...) Morten Reistad Would you rather it phrased differently ?; instead of saying "pollutants limited to x" say "you (the company) must personally provide for disposal of pollutants after point x"; this does put some Japanese companies above others; the bigger ones own and "farm" entire forests. The 8008 1775 On Wed, 05 Oct 2005 07:01:35 GMT, Morten Reistad Great example is M$.. while others took the view of cashing in for their 1,000,000 target, M$ (Gates) took the... The 8008 1778 Yes, same woman. She was the first historian I read. Then I read some guy's work and was so disappointed. That was my first lesson in men ignoring grocery... This may produce the oddity of payments to countries with large forested areas that can soak up CO2 and encourage said countries to stop deforestation. But it doesn't: heard of "global warming"?; wonder what the to-do about SPF and skin cancer is ? Curious about "No Swimming" signs ? How about things like the "Love Canal" (location-centric reference US-Canada) That's incorrect on several accounts. BAH (most probably) meant the usage of the word "save". When you save money it's taken for granted that the money can be used for something else. And some resources *are* widely available still; it's just that the one-offs (minerals and oils) are harder to get at and the renewables (eg: hardwood, fish stocks, etc.) haven't been renewed, and also the environment has already soaked up-converted as much waste as it can and then some. The 8008 1774 There is a technical argument to using less energy. It simplifies all the designs, as energy density is one of the persons... So have savings interest rates. Why put money into a bank that doesn't even cover inflation ? China hasn't been "third world" in quite awhile (over a century?) If any of those type countries ramp up to the same current Western per capita level based on current Western usage patterns, we (the world) are screwed (more than we are already). And yes I've heard the argument that things such as global warming is part of a geological cycle... is that supposed to help ?; it just means we have to work harder on the problem. AFAIK, both oil & gas do not support any ecosystems so using oil and gas is not a problem; when there's no more, there's no more; it's the exhaust we have to worry about. I'm a proponent of hybrid vehicles as a bridge between petroleum and fuel-cell; more than that, I'm a proponent of retrofitting current on-the-road vehicles; that's an immediate 20-40% savings, though barely if at all recoupable in $$$s given the low production rates of electric motors & generators. But it's immediately 20-40% less crap in the air. sustainable infrastructure, the car already has the motors in place. And those squiggly light-bulbs are super; 28w for equivalent 40w; I'm sure that's not net savings since the manufacture is obviously more complex (and here, more than half the year the old ones contribute heat) ... on that note maybe new houses should have one big ballast in the basement (as well as a transformer for the 5vdc and 12vdc outlets) rpl The 8008 1776 Ah, the "global village", a '70s concept that never came to pbutt. In fact, just the opposite has happened - people are crowding ever more tightly into urban areas, and are... note to TBird spellchecker dev: AFAIK "renewables", "recoupable" and "eg:" are valid words... oh, and "spellchecker" too probably (LOL)
