You are still thinking in middle clbutt mode. This was never a middle clbutt economy. It was a farm economy. Bank failure happened when farm economies had stopped and was morphing into a middle clbutt economy. Bank failures didn't affect the farms who hadn't borrowed. In fact, the only people who ate well during the Depression were the farmers because they did not "buy" their food; they grew it. Another side business that women would do was the kitchen gardens. They would sell the excess.

I have a sister who also can't keep money. She solved this problem by paying all the bills out of each paycheck first by putting the money into separate accounts with one account-bill-that-will-come-due. Then she put the rest of the paycheck into her regular account.

Me, I just don't spend money. I suppose it helps that I hate shopping.
