Yea. I understand. Boy, I could have used you as my sounding board. I never knew when...

the vicious circle. If they toned down the politics, I would take a full time job. if my job was JUST about the work, I'd have no problem. When I have to spend a quanifyable percentage of my time kissing buttes in order to get the REAL work done, I revolt in 3 part harmony and glorious Technicolor¨.

As an example, I was working at a major debit card processor. Most of the work they did there was generating reports, in hundreds of formats, and then FTPing them out to clients. The setup of a new client bank took the better part of a week, creating the JCL for the reports, defining all the options, creating the CA7 schedule, promoting things through Endevor, yadda, yadda. So I spent 3 weeks, created a seriers of Rexx processes, ISPF skeletons and panels to automate the process. Time to set up a new client went from 4 days to 2 hours. I then watched the fun as security, dabatase administration, scheduling, and systems programmers spent over 2 months arguing about the names of the datasets in which the components (Rexx, Skeletons and panels) would reside. Needless to say, when my contract came up for renewal, I had 3 feet out the door.

Growing up in Brooklyn instills one with a rather accurate bullpoo detector, it has stood me in good stead. My problem always...
