Since I live in NL, I'll leave it to those resident in the UK to challenge your vaguely referenced recollection. Where I live, though, many of the tourist cafes in places like Rembrandtplein and Leidseplein still sell beer in pints to those who want it that way. Isn't it odd how the yah-boo-scary EU Commission hasn't stopped that practice? In a founding member country in mainland Europe as well!

FWIW, I'm not arguing the merits of the EU (I originally made only the historical point that Europe post-1945 has been a lot more peaceful than Europe pre-1945). You are the one who has been arguing imaginary demerits, apparently supported only by vague and inaccurate recollections inspired by unnamed sources.

There are plenty of good and real reasons to criticize the EU, but, in order to do that, you have to learn a little about it. It's not necessary to propagate urban legends, though. If, nevertheless, you still want to parrot Murdoch-media inspired rubbish about the EU then there is a list of the usual garbage here:
