Because people have been taught that there is a pill for all ails.

Not many people think this way. I've been spending years trying to get my mother to see that driving to five different grocery stores to save a couple of cents is no longer frugal but very foolish to the point of stupid. Today people are spending three gallons of gas to "save" $.01-gallon. I stood in a bank line where the lady behind me was going to borrow money so she could "save" the taxes by using the interest as a deduction off income. I get awed to speechlessness by stupidity; this one is still very high on the list, even though I live in a state full of rabid Democrats.

How many people do you know who go to the doctors when they have a rhino virus? How many people do you know who will take their kid to the doctors to get a splinter out of their finger?

And money. People have lots of it so they spend it as if there's no limit. Governments are famous for this; they are only an example of the atbreastude of the people who live there.
