The Pankian Metaphor 3024
snip This is semantic quibbling, but -- what you say about these folks *IS* negative. It may be factual, and I do try to...

So we could sum up this exchange as: blmblm attempts a joke, bah replies "That's not funny!" ?

The Pankian Metaphor 3023
So stop buttuming bias. Stop buttuming they are negative. Try to read them as fact. I'm not saying that you have to "believe"; I'm trying to...

Fair enough. Time for me to stop beating the horse.

Yep. You picked the exact wrong one to joke about. That is because you keep buttuming...

As I understand it, the point you are making, over and over, is that the Democrats represent a threat to Western civilization, and the Republicans do not. It almost sounds here like you're implying that critizing the Democrats is (or can be) about attempting to preserve civilization, while criticizing the Republicans is invariably just "politlcal disagreements."

I'm not willing to concede your basic point about the D's versus the R's, but that may be sheer bias on my part, in which case it won't be useful to go on here.

You missed my point. I'm not making excuses; I'm saying that if a person is not both able and willing to do something, it's not going to get done. I don't think it's admirable or even particularly excusable that people aren't more willing to do stuff that's inconvenient or uncomfortable; I'm just saying that I think it's reality. Whether that "reality" can be changed ....

People can be made to do things they're not eager to do, as in your example with babies. But that seems to require some kind of outside force.

People can also become willing to do something they previously weren't willing to do, if circumstances change, or someone very persuasive changes their minds. I guess I don't have a lot of confidence in the latter being practical.

Idealism versus cynicism, maybe.
