Inflationary overhang is the same stuff the US is caught in just now, in effect huge loans that for the time being are financed, but will create significant inflationary pressure when they mature. The reparations were money and goods that had to be produced for free to the victors of WW1. It was a significant burden. The international situation took almost a decade to recover, only to crash spectacularly yet again. Germany mostly missed out on the boom, but caught the bust. The Weimar Republic has entered history as how a well-meant political system can fail spectacularly. A large part of the problem was a total lack of political credibility for all parties. Who will lead you to safety when all the leaders are distrusted?

The inflation was the first one to catch up with Germany, in 1923 the inflation went rampant, and the famous "50 milliarden mark" notes were printed. I know of several national bank presidents who have such a note framed on the wall of their office as a reminder of what happes if they do not do their job.
The reparations in effect end the 1925-26 economic recovery, and the 1929-30 crash was hard felt. Finally the Weimar Republic failed.
The 1932 papers are pathetic to read. Everyone saw where it was going, but noone managed to stop it. The country had by the continually been falling apart since 1914.
