Is it a desire to have babies that's hardwired - or the twin desires to have love and to look after what babies may arrive by whatever means?

I'll agree with that one.

I'm not denying the necessity to have babies; what I'm arguing about is whether it's necessary to have a desire to have babies, when the twin desires of love and childrearing (as opposed to childbearing) are much more reliable when you're working strictly with instincts.

How would lower species react to a similar disaster? Would they even be able to conceive a desire to reproduce? Or would their love drive somehow crank up? I'm inclined to believe the latter.

But there's all that social indoctrination. Hairless chests, bald heads... from what I see in today's media, the only acceptable place to have hair is in the mandatory three-day growth of beard.

Meanwhile, my wife is thinking of waxing my shoulders...

You buttume that the trigger is the little gurgling kid, rather than the kid is a means to service a hardware interrupt (inBAH terms ;). I agree in principle, but would rather not think...

Or at the very least, there are groups for whom co-operation is simply not an option.
