Well, at least in this criminal example. :-)
Neither would I. Unfortunately, some people do think this way.

But we digress.
I agree that we've doing some overriding - or at least modification. But we're doing it so that we can continue to indulge the love drive that would otherwise result in reproduction.
But we're not totally selfish. We believe that there is no shortage of babies, but that it's good to take care of the ones that are already here. No, we haven't gone as far as adoption, but we do try to help relatives from time to time with their kids. My wife used to run school programs at the local aquarium, and hopefully she was a good influence on others' children.
Again, though, this is starting to get abstract - although it could be attributed to the same instinct that makes many tribes look out for children as a common buttet.

The love drive isn't necessarily about enjoyment, as your examples illustrate. It can be more of a compulsion than a pleasurable urge. The ordeal of salmon spawning is another good example - and again, I wonder what the salmon is thinking as its compulsion drives it upstream.
We might just be quibbling over definitions. What I see as hardwired is the urge to have love, while you see it as the urge to have babies. I see the love drive as a very direct, immediate thing, while babies are merely the likely consequence of the love act. But the love has to come first - as the mathematicians say, it's necessary and sufficient.
