I've got over three dozen teaching credentials and none of what I teach is based upon my opinion. What I bring to teaching is the how of communicating the material to the students. The content is controlled by the insbreastution granting me the credentials. Any "content" I create has to be approved by the insbreastution before it can be presented to my students.

I buttume the same applies to you given the nature of the University environment, accreditation, and givernment support and supervision of tertiary schools. All of that on top of the integrity a good teach must have in order to maintain a working relationship with one's students. Since they are likely to believe whatever one tells them it is mandatory that one be careful about what is said and taught. None of that can or should be questioned on the basis of one's exercise of free speech.

In my opinion you have no need to defend your teaching. Neither does Bernstein, even though from his postings here I've formed the opinion that he is something of a fool.
