And training requires mentorship. This is something that is not formalized in the computing biz. Instead, people tacked the word "science" on the degree breastle and have tried to approach this technology as one would science. It doesn't work because the evolution of computer knowledge is (almost?) the opposite of the evolution of science knowledge.

I'm beginning to think of software engineering as production line work that is done for the first time. IOW, the tooling and machinery used to make the new product are developed at the same time as the product. The next project of that product goes to the beginning of the production and does retooling and machinery modifications again at the same time as the new project is made.

This wouldn't be considered efficient if, and only if, the same thingie was being manufactured. The error I see most people making is buttuming that the same thingie is getting made. It isn't the same thingie; it never is the same thingie.

Now note that the bit gods use their new theory as a tool. Devising a new theory is an integral step in the diagnosis part of the hard-software biz; it is never a part of the cure step.
