(Of course, the college graduate might be just as bad.) There's something to that - one of the major reasons why we ended up with govt-funded businesses was that the govt was more concerned with conserving the knowledge involved, in a place that'd be accessible when needed ... IIRC, there's an official responsible for maintaining a breed of a horse that can both pull field guns and live on grazing, too. Or at least trying to do so. Actually, IIRC someone did. I was studying this business already and then there were all those newspaper articles about the employers' unions publishing a position paper that they were worried that the govt (Ministry of Education, that is) isn't providing a sufficient supply of trained employees for when all the old ones retire. That was about 10 years ago, and the jobs they were worried about were about those plus machinists and welders. By now, they say that almost anyone who knows which way to hold a welding torch can get a job with one. And they still can't get enough of them. (Went shopping downtown last week and saw several big job ads wanting welders, too.) Because of supply and demand, there are now a bunch of fields where factory-floor people are getting paid more than the university graduates in management. -- #Not speaking for my employer. No warranty. YMMV.
