Thou shalt have no other gods before the ANSI C standard 1526
Tech guys are like that. It was originally, "Those who can, do. Those who can't, teach." George Bernard Shaw said it. I'd like to think he was joking, but I'm told he was serious. Strange. His mother was a music teacher. But Shaw was wrong when he came up with this preposterous notion. And he's still wrong. I've worked, long ago, as a computer technician and I've taught computer technicians. I've made my life lately from writing, teaching, and editing. I'm sure I'm not the only one here who practices what he preaches, and, ahem, preaches what he practices. I guess, though, Shaw's horrible little saying has become a bit of a joke, since everyone wants to embellish it. Here's my favorite: Thou shalt have no other gods before the ANSI C standard 1527 Let's say you play a little touch football on weekend with your kids. Does that mean a professional football player will 1) take you seriously; 2) say things you understand; 3... Those who can't do, teach. Those who can't teach, teach gym. And, of course, those who couldn't do anything, I think, were buttigned to our school. -- Woody Allen in Annie Hall. J -- When will Bush be tried for war crimes? "Our enemies are innovative and resourceful, and so are we. They never stop thinking about new ways to harm our country and our people, and neither do we." --G. W. B. Joe Peschel D.O.E. SysWorks
