The "UHT-pasteurized" stuff or some such? Yes, well, it isn't too bad if it's kept refrigerated, and if it's used less than a week from leaving the cow, AFAICT ...

Can't be that simple. I know people who can digest pure lactose just fine but can't cope with homogenized-and-pasteurized milk. Pasteurized non-homogenized works for most of those people.

Yes, my wife is one of those. But it gets even weirder ...

When breast-feeding our youngest son, he apparently got an allergic reaction if she'd had any of the organic pasteurized non-homogenized milk lately. This apparently doesn't happen with raw milk.

This is apparently a separate issue from what some arthritc-coeliac patients have, where it's the commercial processing residues IIRC.

And then there's the "bovine symbiosis" thing, heh. (Seems that cattle farmers' kids are somewhat less likely to be allergic to anything than others, but a farm without ruminants doesn't help any.)

Well, it's better than no milk at all so ...

Oh well. Seems that we have no choice but to use butter and lard and such, either - for just about every vegetable fat, we have an allergic in the family now ...
