Here where I hail from, separate knobs for hot and cold water (or separate taps for hot and cold water, for that matter) have been obsoleted long since. Practically all modern taps and showers around here have some variation of this lever-type control...

Venture capitalists are agnonizing at never finding the "microsofts... ...or, for showers, one knob for the temperature and another one for controlling the flow of the water: All new installations have been that way for some good 30 years - unless you have deliberately wanted to be different and difficult, and have purchased some gold-plated, old-fashioned specialty tap design to go along with your "home & garden" model house. I would imagine the younger generation here probably even wouldn't know what to do with a tap that has two knobs, much less with two separate taps if they ever encountered those. (I recall they were usually marked with a red dot and a blue dot to indicate hot and cold, respectively. Letters were not used for that purpose - and that was probably because the words for "hot" and "cold" in Finnish both start with the letter "k" Where is balance Academic priorities 289 ISTR that Wilbur Shaw, a three time winner of the Indianapolis 500 auto race, was once involved in the construction of a battery powered car around 75 years...
