VAX 4000 m500A problem

The midseventies SHARE survey
SHARE was-is the user group for IBM mainframe shops, and it dates from the OS-360 days. Some of its tapes of shared software mods are preserved at www.cbttape.org and...

Jealous insofar that my 4000 m60 broke before I had the chance to locate an OpenVMS 7.x install kit + hobbyist license. My other VAXen were too small and slow for 7.x.

I was about the last member accepted to DECUS Holland before they were borged in August 2002. Shortly afterwards DECUS Holland aka Compaq aka HPaq aka Interex raised their membership fee to EUR ~160-annum and played the "This Is Not The VMS Kit You're Looking For, Migrate With Us To Microsoft Windows" game to the hilt. f*** them.

It took me more than 2 years to be removed from their membership roll (they had fewer than 1000 members --surprise-- and needed the bodycount I guess).

So I gave away most of my VAXen (VS2000, VS3100 m38, MV3100 m30, VLC 4000, 4000 m60), ran NetBSD on the survivors. Since then I've had the opportunity to pick up several of the larger 4000 models, but I declined.

As you undoubtedly know there are nowadays shady VMS 6.x distros available, but I can't be bothered to install them. Perhaps when I can acquire a reasonable Alpha system.

So I have Suns and SGI's left. Poor me.
