Our Congress critters at work again. They've forgotten the mess made with S&Ls.

I've thought about this. It will only work well when all people start to do 'credit card' transactions. I estimate it's now about 60%, perhaps more. I will never, ever have a debit card account as the rules stand now.

The bug I see in this is that our banking system punishes you for having this kind of setup. I tried it about a decade ago.

Problem #1: You get charged severely whenever the balance get below a certain minimum, which is oodles of money.

Problem #2: There is no, absolutely none, range checking of the amount nor time stamp checking nor sign (+--) checking. A runaway electric company program could get into an infinite loop and be allowed to deduct valid amounts a light sppeds. Crooked automatic deposit code could ship negative amounts and empty accounts. Today's coders don't seem to think about negatives at all. The billing system for my water usage still cannot handle negative balances. I want to be able to set a limit of $40 for my monthly power bill. I asked the bank if they did this, and, if not, would they do it for me, and all I got was blank stares and immediate SKIPA over that subroutine call. They don't seem to be able to ask this question.

That's a joke. Why should the public pay millions-case. Court systems would go bankrupt overnight.

You have a single point failure here that could immediately disrupt all of your economy. No power; no business.

Are you allowed to pay ahead of time? My style lately is to pay 6 months of my bills. The reason I can only 6 months is becaues some f***ing Congress law edicts that any non-negative amount that is 6 months old has to be returned. Now, this has set up another problem because a check will be issued but not sent (I have no idea where nor whom gets the check but it is a nice way skim money.)

It's real interesting to see how this programming works. One of the "bugs, IMO" is that the negativeness is only check at end of month time and never throughout the account's history.

I've been trying to figure out how to set up something like this using our current tools. The only thing I can think of is to use one credit card as the account and have all bills charged to it. That way I can "push" monies into the account using a bank check. That would keep a wall between the account that has the money and the account that does the paying. And neither can be in the same bank; other wise the idiot code would have a cross-check...Tying all accounts together is another thing those idiots are doing. For some strange reason, some idiot thought that sending out consolidated statements was a bright idea. It was not. There are reasons that people didn't want other people to know the existence of money in the banks.

My latest approach is going to cash only since I won't have a physical piece of paper in my possession that shows a transaction has been completed. The banking system says that they will keep photos of the checks forever. This is pure bullpoo. The Digital Credit Union said this and would provide a paper copy on demand. Five years later the old data was gone and they started to charge for each copy (this was not part of the original deal).
